Farage ‘bought £1.4m house after receiving £5m donation from crypto billionaire’
Nigel Farage is said to have bought a £1.4 million house shortly after receiving a £5 million “gift” from a Thailand-based crypto billionaire.
The Reform UK leader is being investigated by the Commons’ vice watchdog for failing to declare a multi-million pound donation from party donor Christopher Harborne weeks before Mr Farage stood in the 2024 general election.
Mr Farage has previously insisted there was “no case to answer” over the gift, which he said was meant to pay for private security for the rest of his life.
But he now faces further questions after property records seen by Sky News showed he completed a £1.4 million cash purchase of the property in May 2024.
Mr Farage hit out at the report, describing it as “fake news from the establishment media who will do anything to undermine the Reformation”.
He wrote about X: “I passed proof of funds and relevant checks before receiving the gift. Sky News did not publish this part of our statement despite knowing the truth.”
he said later Sun It was stated that the gift was given as “a reward for his 27-year campaign for Brexit”.
A spokesman for Mr Farage said: “The relevant chronology is simple. The bidding and purchasing process for the property began before the gift.
“Mr Farage had already passed proof of funds and relevant checks before receiving the gift. The purchase was therefore already proceeding independently of him.”
Labor accused Mr Farage of trying to “cover up” Mr Harborne’s controversial donation.
Labor leader Anna Turley said: “Nigel Farage has repeatedly dodged questions about his multi-million pound ‘gift’. We can now see why – it’s absolutely awful. Farage must urgently make a public statement about what this £5m was used for and why he failed to declare it.”
“The facts are simple. Farage received £5 million from a crypto billionaire, tried to cover it up, and bought an expensive house after receiving the money. Not only that, he promised to reduce taxes on crypto transactions. This is a clear-cut conflict of interest.”
“Farage may try to avoid scrutiny but he cannot be trusted – he is not on your side.”
Mr Farage has previously said the money was “given to me to keep me safe and secure for the rest of my life”.
“I have tried and failed in the past to have security funded by the Home Office and I don’t think the state will ever help me,” he added.
“I am very alone and will be for the rest of my life, and I have to face that harsh reality. Christopher is an ardent supporter who is deeply concerned about my safety.”
Mr Harborne has donated millions separately to Reform, including a £9 million donation in August 2025; This is the largest donation to a political party from a living person in history.

Mr Farage will now face an investigation by the parliamentary standards commissioner over the gift.
He could be removed from the House of Commons if the investigation finds he has seriously breached parliamentary rules. A suspension of 10 days or more could trigger a recall petition, which could result in him having to fight for his Clacton seat again.
A Reform UK spokesman said: “Mr Farage’s office has been in contact with the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner. He has always made clear that this was a personal, unconditional gift and no rules were broken.
“We look forward to seeing this eliminated once and for all.”
