Irish Open: Rory McIlroy beats Joakim Lagergren in dramatic K Club play-off

Rory McILOY held her nerves to win the Irish Open in a dramatic play-offs, and claimed her first victory since she completed Grand Slam in Masters in April.

World number two took Sweden’s Joakim Lgergren’s third extra hole, and the second time – the first – nine years later – to win its national title at the end of an exciting final round.

On a remarkable surface, McILOY 72. A 25 -meter eagle idol into the hole, matched the ecstatic scenes of Lagergren’s 66 -year -old 66 with the ecstatic scenes in the kilde course.

Both players besieged the first two play-off holes, but McILOY found water in the third of the lagergrene, and after the Ryder Cup to the Northern Irish, just three weeks before the Ryder Cup.

“I thought it would be a return home, a green jacket and all this comes home, but it was absolutely incredible.”

“This has exceeded all my expectations. I am very happy to play this week as I can do all this week.

For McILOY, after Royal County’s heartbreak 12 months ago, there was a measure of salvation when Denmark threw a eagle into the last hole to take Rasmus Hojgaard to extra holes.

However, on Sunday, McILOY hit Kartal Putt home and as a result of the players championship and the masters this year, this year won the third time in a Play-Off.

“I shot and wanted to be aggressive with him,” he added.

“It was a very cool moment, a great feeling for him to get in. It gave me a chance in the play-off.”
