Barry Manilow announces cancer surgery, reschedules Las Vegas shows

Barry Manilow revealed that doctors recently discovered a cancerous spot on his lung.
What started as lingering bronchitis turned into an unexpected medical discovery for Manilow; Manilow says it was caught early, thanks to a “wonderful doctor.” Manilow shared his health update with fans on Instagram on Monday.
“As many of you know, I recently had six weeks of bronchitis and then relapsed for another five weeks,” Manilow said. on Instagram. “Even though I had recovered from my bronchitis and was back on stage at the Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI to make sure everything was OK. The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needed to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that this was found so early. That’s good news.”
“The bad news is that now that the Christmas A Gift of Love concerts are over, I’m going to have surgery to have the spot removed,” he continued. “Doctors don’t believe it’s spread, so I run tests to confirm the diagnosis. That’s it. No chemotherapy. No radiation. Just chicken soup and reruns of I Love Lucy.”

Manilow does not need to undergo chemotherapy or radiation, but he will need time to recover. He announced that upcoming January shows have been rescheduled.
“The only follow-up is a month to recover, which means we have to reschedule the arena concerts in January,” Manilow wrote.

He added: “I’m so sorry you had to change your plans. Just like you, we were looking forward to the January shows and hated having to change everything.”
