“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin came out in support of California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday, days after actress Halle Berry publicly called him out for ignoring women in his state.

Responding to Berry’s criticism of the Democratic governor for vetoing a menopause-related bill in California, Hostin argued that Newsom was justified in his actions and praised his supposedly strong record on advocating for women.

“And so she had to veto that because they didn’t tailor the bill to keep health care costs down, and she’s done so much for women,” Hostin said.

Berry made no bones about his criticism of Newsom’s veto of the bill in his speech at the New York Times DealBook Summit on Wednesday, arguing that it disqualified him from being elected president in 2028.

“In my great state of California, my governor, Gavin Newsom, vetoed the menopause bill not one, but two years in a row,” he said. “But that’s okay, because he won’t be governor forever, and he probably shouldn’t be our next president either because he devalues us and ignores women, half the population. Just saying.”

Berry, who founded menopause care company Respin, opposed Newsom’s actions related to AB 432, which aims to improve and expand menopause care and require a health care plan or health insurer to make recommendations for menopause-related treatments.

The bill would also require health care providers to receive training on menopause care, according to Bauer-Kahn’s press release.

Newsom vetoed the bill a second time in October.

Hostin rejected Berry’s claim, saying Newsom vetoed the bill because it was too expensive.

“I love Halle Berry,” he said. “I know Halle Berry. I disagree with her 100% because Gavin Newsom has made it clear that the reason he vetoed this bill twice is because he wanted them to tailor it to the costs. Remember, by 2026, health premiums will go up to almost a thousand dollars per family.”

The host then listed Newsom’s record of supporting women and listed several pro-abortion agenda items.

Hostin said: “In September, he signed a measure allowing health care providers to prescribe abortion drugs anonymously. He calls for a state-regulated health plan to cover abortion pills regardless of federal approval status. In October, he increased legal protection for health care providers against criminal prosecution.”

“She signed a law that protects women’s health by creating safety regulations for ingredients and ingredients in products used by women, such as hair, menstrual products, prenatal vitamins. She has done a lot for women, but she is concerned about the health of the country and the rising costs of health care.”
