Fauci diary entries reveal close friendship with CNN anchor Jake Tapper

Dr. Anthony Fauci described his relationships with various media personalities in a series of controversial diary entries that shed light on the former White House COVID adviser’s cordial relationship with the press.

Fauci’s diary entries were released Saturday by Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rand Paul, R-Ky. It was published by and detailed the doctor’s role during the COVID-19 crisis through interviews with President Donald Trump, governors, world leaders, media appearances, and personal observations he made as the pandemic unfolded in 2020. Remarkable diary entries reveal that Fauci formed fast friendships with members of the liberal media assigned to cover the outbreak.

Fauci’s closest media ally turned out to be CNN anchor Jake Tapper, who was mentioned 41 times in the eyebrow-raising log.

According to the log, Tapper texted Fauci to mock rival cable news hosts and other doctors. Tapper once called to check in on Fauci after his appearance on his show upset Trump supporters.

“Jake wanted to make sure the interview would not cause me any trouble,” Fauci wrote on April 13, 2020.

In July 2020, Fauci said he had formed a friendship with Tapper.

“Had dinner at Jake Tapper and Jen Tapper’s house in DC. Great couple. Building friendship,” Fauci wrote, according to the diary.

Later that month, Fauci wrote to pediatrician Brett Giroir that he “gave Jake some questions to ask” during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.” But Tapper later woke Fauci up by voicing his disappointment.

“Tapper woke me up at 11:23 in the morning (I went to bed early) furius [sic] On POTUS for tweeting the fact that Jake was seriously ill [sic] Today SOTU questioned Brett Giroir on his CNN show. Jake was really angry at the insanity of it all,” Fauci wrote.

The late-night tirade could hardly have bothered Fauci, who invited Tapper to his home for dinner months later.

“I had dinner with Jake and Jennifer Tapper at my house,” Fauci wrote on October 23, 2020. “I relaxed, had a good time. Jake clearly believes Trump is completely insane.”

“Dana Bash sent me a message: ‘I watched the whole Jordan thing. Again, you’re a better man than I am… As our friend Wolf Blitzer told me yesterday, no one would blame you if you had just said, ‘Mr. Jordan, go fuck yourself,'” Fauci said. wrote Fauci.

Tapper and Bash went on to moderate the CNN Republican Presidential Primary Debate between then-President Biden and President Trump in 2024.

Fauci also had a texting relationship with then-NBC News anchor Chuck Todd.

Fauci wrote: “Chuck Todd and I had a really nice conversation this morning. He texted me yesterday to ask what I thought of the interview. I told him I thought it was absolutely great, but I asked him for some advice. I asked him if I should step back from publicly defending myself against slanderous attacks because it might draw more attention to them.”

Fauci also revealed that ABC’s George Stephanopoulos texted him after an interview on “Good Morning America” ​​in July 2020. Stephanopoulos was apparently impressed by Fauci’s dismissal of a nasty tweet from Trump.

“Thank you Tony. Very impressive,” Stephanopoulos wrote, according to the diary.

Earlier in his diary, Fauci talked to CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. He boasted that he had prepared Jonathan LaPook for his television appearance.
