FBI swarm Michigan’s Temple Israel after ‘vehicle ramming’ and ‘shooting’ | World | News

Police respond to an “active shooter situation” at Temple Israel in Michigan. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said officers were dispatched Thursday to what was described as the largest Reform synagogue in the United States. The public is asked to avoid the area near Temple Israel, located at 5725 Walnut Lake Road in West Bloomfield.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said “at least one person” was involved in the incident and was “involved in gunfire” by security. Reuters reported that the suspect was dead and no one else was injured. Mr Bouchard said: “It appears that at least one person came to the temple, security saw him and opened fire on him. “We are not currently receiving any active alerts at the scene.
“We have everything we need here, including medics and tactical equipment. We’re checking to see if there’s more than one person. We’re trying to figure that out.”
FBI Director Kash Patel said the incident also involved an “apparent vehicle collision” and confirmed that FBI personnel responded.

In helicopter footage of the incident circulating on social media, smoke can be seen coming from the roof of the synagogue while emergency vehicles are parked outside.
Police said that although there is “no known threat” at this time, nearby schools have been placed in safe mode as a precaution.

Bloomfield Police wrote about X: “Bloomfield Hills schools are in safe mode due to an ongoing incident in West Bloomfield. This is a precaution, there is no known threat to Bloomfield Hills schools at this time.”
The Jewish Federation of Detroit also called on all Jewish organizations to comply with the “lockout protocol.”
Michigan State Police added: “We are asking community members to avoid the area to allow police response. Troopers are also increasing patrols at other places of worship in the area.”
Ann Arbor Police Chief Andre Anderson ordered increased patrols and told officers to respond to local houses of worship and schools as a precautionary measure.
