‘Feels like Pakistan, not Dallas’: Controversy over ‘Islamisation’ remark by US lawmaker having Indian-origin wife | World News

US Republican lawmaker Brandon Gill sparked controversy following the ongoing “Islamization” claim in some parts of the US state of Texas. He said visiting local shopping malls in Texas “makes you feel like you’re in Pakistan, not Dallas.”
“I hear from voters all the time that they have deep, desperate concerns about the Islamization of the Dallas area,” Brandon said in an interview with Real America’s Voice on Friday.
Texans shouldn’t go to the mall and feel like they’re in Pakistan.

The Republican Congressman expressed concern about increasing Islamization, saying: “His constituents are hearing about mosques popping up near land they or their families have owned for generations.
“We have communities that are transforming. You hear voters talking about going to their local malls, and you look around and it feels like you’re in Pakistan and not Dallas, Texas. That’s a problem,” he added.
He later claimed in a social media post that there was “mass Islamic immigration” that was “killing the America we know and love.”
But he provided no additional data or supporting evidence, prompting responses suggesting his remarks were made merely “to make his Indian wife happy.”
Brandon’s wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, is of Indian descent and is the daughter of close Trump ally and Indian American commentator Dinesh D’Souza.
However, this is not the first time such racist discourses have occurred. In the past, both Brandon and his wife have been embroiled in controversy over alleged joint comments they made about Indian-origin Democrat Zohran Mamdani during the New York City mayoral election campaign, which he ultimately won.

It all started when a user X shared a video in which Zohran Mamdani is seen eating rice with her hands.
Brandon reshared the post, writing: “Civilized people in America don’t eat like this. If you refuse to embrace Western customs, go back to the Third World.”
His wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, also supported her husband and said: “I did not grow up eating rice with my hands and always used a fork.”
Many social media users later accused her of double standards, pointing out that she is of Indian origin and should have known that eating with her hands is a common practice in many South Asian countries.
Gill represents Texas’ 26th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was elected to Congress in 2024 and serves on the House Judiciary, Budget, and Oversight Committees; here he is concerned with securing the border, protecting life, eliminating government waste, and restoring America’s economic strength.
