Female migrant ‘raped and tortured girl, 12, and put her in suitcase’ | World | News

An illegal immigrant is preparing to stand trial in France for allegedly raping, torturing and strangling a schoolgirl to death. Dahbia Benkired, 27, traveled from Algeria to France before being charged with murdering 12-year-old Lola Daviet in a case that shook the country three years ago. Investigators alleged that Benkired slit Lola’s throat with scissors and a box cutter, then taped her face with duct tape and eventually strangled her to death.

The 12-year-old boy was found in a plastic bag near an apartment block in Paris on October 14, 2022. Benkired was suspected of first putting the body in the trunk of a friend’s car and hiring him to take it to his home. He then allegedly took a taxi with the bag and returned to the building where his sister lived. He was arrested the next day.

Benkired was caught on CCTV footage approaching the young girl after she returned from school on October 14 and taking her to her sister’s apartment in the building in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. Sun reports.

The investigation revealed that he was seen by local residents in the lobby about an hour and a half later with suitcases and a heavy trunk covered with a blanket.

The illegal immigrant told detectives that he was angry with the 12-year-old boy’s mother, who refused to give him a pass to the building because he was not a tenant.

The horror incident unfolded after Benkired was ordered to leave France for overstaying his student visa.

The Algerian admitted in court that he forced Lola to undress and perform sex on her “for my pleasure.”

He added that he was abused by family members in his childhood, and that his aunts, with whom he lived before settling in France, “forced him to watch pornographic films” and “groped” him.

Benkired admitted that the crime was “horrible” and asked the girl’s relatives to forgive her.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, with the trial expected to last until next Friday.
