Female nursery worker, 20, jailed for four years for sharing child abuse images

A depraved female nursery worker was part of a disgusting ‘network’ that shared horrific images of child abuse, a court heard today.

Zara Lancashire, 20, bragged to pedophiles online that she planned to abuse her own children when she gave birth to them.

He also claimed he had sexually assaulted children in his care, although the police investigation found no evidence of this occurring.

Lancashire, who worked at Flower Pots Day Nursery in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court today after admitting 11 charges of distributing child sexual abuse material.

Four of these were for distributing indecent images of children, three for making indecent images and four for publishing obscene articles.

Imposing a four-year sentence for Lancashire, Recorder Lana Wood said: ‘The age and vulnerability of the children depicted is an aggravating factor.

‘Another aggravating factor is that this collection contains moving images.

‘You appear to be actively involved in a network that facilitates the sharing of indecent images of children.’

He added: ‘Although there is no evidence that you are particularly immature for your age, I take into account your young age.’

Lancashire showed no emotion during the hearing but smiled and nodded throughout the hearing.

The defendant, whose Facebook page contained a disturbing old profile photo with half his face appearing as a demon, was arrested in front of shocked staff at the kindergarten on September 15, 2025.

He was taken into custody after the arrest of a man who was detected from his electronic devices as sharing obscene messages and inappropriate photos with him.

A two-year-old child appeared in the 97-second category A video that Lancashire sent to the man using the username ‘Pervert’.

The kindergarten worker used the username ‘balloon penguin’ on the Telegram messaging platform and described herself as a ‘little bitch’ on Zangi.

Prosecutor Harry Laidlaw described his relationship with other users as “transactional”; Lancashire was responding to the messages by providing him with videos of himself performing sexual acts.

The child abuse images distributed by Lancashire were all Category A, the most serious.

Among the distorted messages he sent in June and July last year were messages expressing his own desire to sexually abuse his own future children.

A letter sent on May 29 talked about how, as a nursery worker, she had been aroused by the children she cared for.

When talking to another person, ‘Mr. Bad’, the accused claimed that he sexually harassed some of them.

One message read: ‘The youngest person I’ve ever done anything with is three months old.’

Despite an extensive investigation, police found no evidence that Lancashire had abused any children in his care.

Officers spoke to the parents of more than 100 children at the nursery and concluded that all the crimes were ‘committed online’ rather than at work.

Prosecutor Mr Laidlaw told the court: ‘He was more aware of the abuse than the normal person, he was more conscious of protection and he was more aware of the consequences of such actions.’

Madeleine Wolfe, representing Lancashire, told the court that “the messages were not indicative of Ms Lancashire’s intentions”.

The court heard Lancashire fully co-operated with police after his arrest and provided the PIN code for his phone, as well as fully admitting his activities.

Detective Inspector Fay Tooley, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s public protection command, said: ‘Lancashire has been brought to justice for his crimes and although our investigation revealed that they did not involve physical abuse of any children, they were still of an extremely serious nature.’

Lancashire had also been charged with sexual assault but this was stayed at an earlier hearing.

Flower Pots Day Nursery, also based in Buckinghamshire, has been approached for comment.

In a statement sent to parents earlier, managers said: ‘We want to reassure you that we remain as committed as we have always been to providing a safe and secure environment for your children.’
