Formula 1 heads to Monaco this weekend for its most important race, the Monaco Grand Prix, and the season is dominated by Mercedes.
However, this race may present a golden opportunity for their closest rivals, Ferrari.
The Silver Arrows won every race, Grand Prix or Sprint, except the Sprint race in Miami, which was won by McLaren’s Lando Norris.

This created a significant difference in the rankings between them and Ferrari; But Monaco offers the Scuderia the opportunity to break the dominance of Mercedes and championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
This is because Ferrari’s car and power unit are expected to be well-suited to the notoriously narrow and winding Monaco circuit.
All season long, Ferrari’s strength has been under acceleration. This situation is most clearly seen at the beginning of the race. Look back and look at almost every start of this season; Ferraris look like they’ve jumped out of a cannon, while Mercedes and the rest generally look pretty sluggish.
With so many slow corners like Monaco (some corners like the Hotel Corner and La Rascasse are among the slowest on the entire calendar) getting through them and accelerating out is a big deal. You can’t rely on straight-line speed like at other tracks and Ferrari won’t mind that as that’s not their biggest strength.

Finding time in these slow corners in qualifying on Saturday could mean starting from pole position, and in Monaco this really gives you an advantage on a track where overtaking is almost impossible.

Even reigning champion Lando Norris expects the Prancing Horses to get a head start.
“To be honest, I think Ferrari will be on pole position in Monaco next weekend,” Norris told Motorsport. he said. “Their low speed performance is much better than anyone else.”

Now, even if Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton starts from the front, a million things can go wrong. Weather may be a factor; they can cut through a wall; They may encounter a technical problem.
But the key to winning in Monaco these days is starting with the best possible track position, and Ferrari is looking for the best chance of achieving that so far this season.
