Fifth Circuit upholds Texas Ten Commandments school law

A federal appeals court has upheld a Texas law requiring public schools statewide to display the Ten Commandments.
The decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals came after Texas’ Republican-led legislature passed the law.

“This is one of Texas’ most important religious freedom victories in our illustrious history,” said Jonathan Saenz, an attorney and president of Texas Values, which championed the law. “Texas continues to lead the nation in defending both religious freedom and constitutional truth.”
“Today’s decision confirms that our state can honor the moral legacy that undergirds our legal system without violating the First Amendment,” he added. “This decision makes clear that acknowledging the historical foundations of our laws is not only permissible but fully consistent with the Constitution.”
