Final bid to find rapist ‘on the run’ for 50 years

50 years ago, he hopes that the new images of a man he wanted for a woman’s “brutal” rape will finally take him to justice.
A 30 -year -old woman was asleep at her Melbourne house in the early hours of July 22, 1974, when she was awakened and raped by a stranger.
Nine days later, police accused George Karakis of rape, theft and immoral attack.
He has been “escaping” with bail with a bail of $ 1000 given by his wife.
Now he would be 78 years old.
In 1990, the NSW police thought that they found him in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, but disappeared before an order was applied.
In 2015, a public appeal could not find a Greek -born smug.
50 years after his arrest, on Monday, the police released a digitally produced image of the 1974 cup shooting and how Karakis could look today.
At the time of his arrest, Karakis was 27 years old and lived on Gore Street, Fitzroy, with his wife, sister and brother -in -law.
Yarra Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Officer Ruby Roberts said that Karakis’s sacrifice was in the 80s and that he had to live most of his life, knowing that he had not met the court for the “brutal” crime that this man was accused.
“This crime has changed his life forever, and 50 years, for a long time to live without justice.” He said.
He continued: “Karakis’in where he fled and even who knows where he is currently residing people will definitely.”
Considering the time since his arrest, the police says that Karakis is likely to die – but Hell to find answers so that the victim can close a part in his life.
