Financier shocks CNN panel by sharing shock conspiracy theory about Pope Leo and Obama: ‘Connect the dots’

A financier shocked a CNN panel with his claim that Pope Leo XIV and Barack Obama conspired to overthrow President Donald Trump.

Point Bridge Capital boss Hal Lambert touted the Chicago-based plot during an appearance on NewsNight with Abby Phillip on Monday.

The MAGA-supporting executive accused pastor, former president and CNN chief political analyst David Axelrod, who previously served on Obama’s White House staff, of trying to take down the Republican Party ahead of the next election.

‘This is 100 percent political, okay? “This is all about President Trump trying to hurt the Catholic vote in the midterms and the Republican vote in the midterm elections,” Lambert said.

‘Whatever you look at, move the dots here… David Axelrod went to visit Pope Leo last week. They’re talking about Obama visiting Pope Leo.’

Lambert stated that the leader of the Catholic Church is also from Chicago, He continued: ‘Pope Leo suddenly started attacking Trump and the policies of the USA and Israel…

‘Today there are three cardinals attacking immigration policy. This is all about trying to get the Catholic vote against Trump.’

Phillip interrupted Lambert to criticize his claim, noting that the thesis had “many flaws.”

But the financier was ruthless and told him: ‘There is no fault whatsoever. Axelrod is Obama’s chief strategist. The Pope says he is not political. Why is he meeting with the chief strategist for both the Obama campaigns and the White House?’

CNN commentator Bakari Sellers claimed that the pope met with them ‘because he is from Chicago’.

Phillip also pointed out that one of the late Pope Francis’ last conversations before his death was with Vice President J.D. Vance.

‘He met with Pope Francis,’ he said. ‘Pope Francis was highly critical-‘

Lambert interrupted him once again: ‘J.D. Vance is the Vice President of the United States.’

Trump launched a scathing attack on the Pope on Sunday, calling him ‘weak’ and a prisoner of the ‘Radical Left’ and even suggesting he owes his position to the president.

“Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, it was a shocking surprise,” Trump wrote on social media platform Truth Social.

‘He wasn’t on any list of Popes and he was put there by the Church because he was American and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J Trump.’

‘Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican if I wasn’t in the White House,’ he added.

The president said he favored the Pope’s brother Louis because he was “all MAGA.” Trump added: ‘He gets it, but Leo doesn’t!’

The dispute began after the pope criticized the US attack on Iran without directly naming Trump or Washington.

Trump responded with a salvo directed at the head of the Catholic Church.

The Pope said he was ‘not afraid’ of the Trump administration and would continue to speak out against war with Iran.

“I’m not afraid of the Trump administration or speaking out loud about the message of the gospel; I believe that’s what I’m here for, I believe that’s what the Church is here to do,” he told reporters during his flight to Algeria.

‘I don’t want to get into an argument’ [Trump]’ he added.

‘Too many people are suffering in the world today. Too many innocent people are being killed. And I think someone needs to stand up and say: There is a better way to do this,” the pope said.

Popes have disagreed with the United States before; especially II. John Paul had strongly opposed the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Just weeks before his death in April 2025, Pope Francis called Trump’s immigrant deportations a ‘major crisis’, prompting the president’s border czar Tom Homan to say that he ‘must stick to the Catholic Church’.

Many of Francis’ critics accused him of being anti-American; This is something that cannot be said of Pope Leo.

Trump’s criticism is seemingly unprecedented, as most US presidents are wary of alienating Catholic voters by speaking out too much against a priest.
