Fire breaks out at flat linked to Premanand Ji Maharaj in Mathura’s Vrindavan, thick smoke triggers panic; cause suspected to be

A massive fire broke out in a flat attached to saint Premanand Ji Maharaj in Shri Krishna Sharanam Society in Vrindavan, probably due to electrical fault. No injuries were reported, but tensions rose following allegations that the saint’s attendants behaved inappropriately towards local residents, police and journalists.
Panic gripped the residents of Shri Krishna Sharanam Society in Vrindavan on Sunday morning following a major fire in a flat belonging to the famous saint Premanand Ji Maharaj. The residential complex is located on Chhata-Chhikara Road, a busy area of the temple town. While initial evaluations suggest that the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit, authorities are continuing the investigation.
Seeing heavy smoke and flames rising from the apartment caused nearby residents to call for help and inform the authorities.
Premanand Ji Maharaj was not present at the time of the incident
A major tragedy was averted as Premanand Ji Maharaj was not in the flat at the time of the fire. According to local sources, the saint was staying at Shri Radhahit Kalikunj, another religious residence in Vrindavan, for the past month.
Upon notice, fire brigades and local police teams came to the scene. Fire crews took the fire under control in a short time and prevented it from spreading to adjacent apartments. There was no injury or loss of life in the incident.
Allegations of ill-treatment by officers created tension
While the emergency services were responding to the fire, it was reported that tension increased due to the behavior of the saint’s officials present. Eyewitnesses claimed officers tried to prevent journalists from reporting on the incident and prevented residents from recording videos on their mobile phones.
Locals claimed that many people’s phones were forcibly taken away and that even on-duty police personnel were subjected to disrespectful behaviour. The alleged actions sparked heated debate at the scene and criticism from area residents who said they gathered only to help in emergencies.
Neighborhood residents demanded precautions be taken, an investigation was launched
The alleged abuse sparked outrage among residents of Braj area, with many demanding strict action against those responsible. Local residents expressed concerns that instead of cooperating in a public safety emergency, officers were exacerbating the situation by acting aggressively.
The fire department has launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the local government has initiated checks on fire safety measures, electrical installations and emergency equipment in the building to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Authorities assured citizens that necessary measures would be taken according to the results of the investigation. The incident also sparked broader debates among Vrindavan’s religious and civil communities on security, accountability and behavior in emergencies.
