Two dead and multiple injured after Air Canada flight crashes into ground vehicle on runway at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport

According to reports, an Air Canada flight collided with a ground vehicle while landing at LaGuardia Airport in New York City on Sunday night, killing the pilot and co-pilot.

The plane, which took off from Montreal, landed around 11:40 p.m. and hit a Port Authority rescue vehicle on the runway, a spokesman told the Daily Mail.

Sources told NBC New York It was stated that the pilot and co-pilot lost their lives in the collision. Many people were also injured.

The Port Authority spokesman added that the plane hit the rescue vehicle that was responding to a separate incident at the time.

After the incident, the plane’s nose was severely damaged and its front part could be seen on the tarmac, leaning into the air.

The flight was affiliated with Nova Scotia’s regional airline, Jazz Aviation, and was operating on behalf of Air Canada.

‘Emergency response protocols were immediately activated. The Port Authority Police Department was on the scene along with the agency’s President and Executive Director, a Port Authority spokesperson said in a statement.

‘The Port Authority Police Department is working closely with federal authorities as well as our airline partners and will provide additional updates as more details become available.’

Following the incident, the jet with 76 passengers and crew was removed from the runway by the Port Authority Police.

The New York Fire Department confirmed to the Daily Mail that its crews had received reports of an incident involving an aircraft and a vehicle on runway four.

It was reported that the Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft was carrying 76 passengers and crew at the time of the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced a ground stop due to an onboard emergency and effectively closed LaGuardia Airport at 11:50 p.m. EST.

The Port Authority’s vehicle was photographed after the collision veered sideways as multiple emergency responders flooded the runway.

The National Transportation Safety Board opened an investigation into the crash.

The Daily Mail has contacted LaGuardia Airport, the FAA and Air Canada for comment.

LaGuardia warned of flight disruptions due to weather conditions at 8:30 p.m. EST. New York experienced wet conditions Sunday night.

The incident comes as airports already face increasing pressure amid a stalemate in DHS funding.

LaGuardia is one of many airports facing challenges as employees are forced to work without pay and passengers face long security lines.

Border czar Tom Homan confirmed on CNN that he was working with ICE Director Tedd Lyons and acting administrator TS Ha Nguyen McNeill to finalize a plan to deploy ICE agents.

He added that authorities will prepare a plan, including which airports will be targeted, by the end of the day on Sunday.
