Woolworths plan for Glengarry Shopping Centre: City of Joondalup and residents oppose Woolworths development

Supermarket giant Woolworths faces the council opposition against Perth’s new development plans in the northern suburbs.

As Sunday Times has recently reported, the 50 -year -old Glengarry Sopping Center in the Woolworths group Duncraig wants to take its place with a supermarket, restaurant, shops and offices on the upper floor.

However, this week, the city of Joondalup announced that it would recommend it against the plan when it came before the WA Metro External Development Evaluation Panel on September 3.

The Minister said that Glengarry Drive, Culloden Road, and Potentially Carlyle Crescent and Kinloch Place residents and users, said that the residents and users of Carlyle Culloden Road and their users will “unreasonably affect the comfort and security of their residents and users.

Woolworths believes that redevelopment will increase the ease of shopping and create a living place for small business tenants and community.

“We are excited about the opportunity to raise and modernize the Glengarry Shopping Center in Duncraig,” a Woolworths spokesman told Perthnow in May.

“Re -development will include new services and suitable shopping options and aim to create a live place for small businesses and community.”

However, the inhabitants joined Joondalup’s opposition to development.

“Development Evaluation Panel should respect the serious concerns of the community about this inappropriate proposal, L Luke and Lisa Mansfield from Culloen Road, Sunday Times, said in a statement to Sunday Times.

“This development will cause an irreversible damage to Duncraig and wider community due to the negative impact on noise pollution, traffic chaos and nearby retail centers. At the same time, it also discusses the council’s own commercial strategy. This is a proposal to lose.

“Residents do not oppose development, but the community should meet their expectations, comply with the guidelines of the council and respect the unique character of the city of Joondalup.”
