Police appeal for hero witness after woman sexually assaulted in Plymouth

Police are seeking a witness as part of an investigation launched after a woman was sexually assaulted in Plymouth.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the attack took place at around 3am on September 12, 2025, and was reported last month.
The victim was dragged to the ground in New George Street by a man who first chatted her up and then tried to pull her top down.
He then put his hand over his mouth, but the victim managed to scream, alerting a passerby, which caused the man to run away.
The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, with tattoos on his forearms and wearing a black puffer-style jacket.
Police said a woman named Sophia in her 20s gave the victim her jacket and walked him to his home. He told the victim he had just finished work.
In the statement made by the police, it was said: “A woman walking on the city’s New George Street was approached by an unidentified man.
“The suspect then began talking to the victim before trying to pull her top down.

“The victim’s scream alerted a female passerby, which caused the suspect to flee.”
The assault was reported on January 26 and police officers want to speak to Sophia.
