Flipping heck: tech giant wants to upsize your phone

One of the world’s largest smartphone manufacturers will bet larger screens, smaller forms and artificial smart features to convince Aussies to raise the content of their pockets.

However, when released on August 1, more advanced devices will come with more costs, and experts competitors finally pay more attention to a niche market.

Samsung first introduced its latest folded smartphones in New York on Thursday, including the Galaxy Z Fold7, which will have the Google AI features that will have the first eight -inch (20 cm) folding screen and camera for ‘see’.

The South Korean technology giant also showed two versions of the folding Flip phone, including a discounted model.

Eric Chou, President of the Samsung Australia Mobile Experience, with a thinner body closer to a standard phone, increased the size of the company’s best model folding in front and the size of the screens in response to customer demand.

“This is built for customers who use a really loyal, foldable form factor and provide insight us.”

“Effectively, they want a larger screen (and a better camera without sacrificing the fact that it is foldable.”

The big screen phone will be significantly thinner than its predecessor at 8.9mm when folded, it will be 24 grams lighter and will add a 200 megapixel camera, but the best model will command up to $ 250 up to $ 3549.

Small Z Flip7 from $ 1799 will add larger screens and a larger battery forward and inside.

Both folding phones, including photo editing and language tools, will add AI features, and also access to Google’s Gemini Live AI assistant, will be able to use the cameras of the phones for additional information.

“Gemini Live can see what you see and see what happened on the screen and provide contextual suggestions,” he said.

“To have a built -in (AI) multi -mode agent, essentially … You can interact with the device and get things you need through sound and camera.”

Although it was one of the first companies to publish a folding phone in 2019, Samsung faces significant competition from competitors, including Motorola, Huawei and Google, which broadcasts a foldable phone in Australia last year.

Research on future market insights predict that the folding telephone market will grow by 26 percent between 2025-2035 and grow more than seven percent annually in Australia.

However, TELSYTE General Manager Fadaghi said that increasing the size and durability of folding screens and reducing the size of the devices would be vital to achieve this growth.

“When it comes to the form factor of their next handset, consumers will be spoiled for the selection.” He said.

“The question is whether the foldable phone will stick for them, whether people buy them, and whether they will continue to buy instead of going back to the standard phone format.”
