FEMA preparations revealed for ‘massive winter storm’ bearing down on US

FIRST ON FOX: A note obtained by Fox News Digital revealed the preparations Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) A “major winter storm” is expected to hit more than 240 million people in more than 30 states Friday.

The FEMA statement said 250,000 meals, 400,000 liters of water and 30 generators were pre-positioned at Camp Minden in Louisiana, as well as dozens of shuttle drivers to “expeditiously transport goods as needed” from facilities in Pennsylvania, Texas, Louisiana and Georgia.

Additionally, 28 urban search and rescue teams remain on standby “ready to deploy and support lifesaving operations upon governors’ request,” according to the statement.

“The secretary is fully engaged with FEMA in a way we haven’t seen from DHS secretaries in previous administrations. It’s clear that he cares deeply about the Americans who will be impacted by this storm and is leaning in to make sure they get the resources they need,” a FEMA source told Fox News Digital.

“He personally gave his phone number to dozens of governors during a phone call yesterday, and the FEMA administrator did the same. It’s like someone put a chainsaw through the bureaucracy and red tape. We’re focused, we’re up to the task, we’re deploying resources and supporting the state and local response to this storm,” the source added.

“On Friday, January 23, 2026, a major winter storm will begin its path across the central United States, affecting more than 30 states,” the FEMA statement states.

“Conditions will range from heavy snow and crippling ice in the South to life-threatening cold in the North. A major, long-lasting winter storm is expected to bring widespread heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain from the Southern Rockies/Plains to the Mid-South beginning Friday and spread eastward into the Mid-Atlantic and New England this weekend,” the statement said. “The Arctic front will bring freezing temperatures and gusty winds that will lead to dangerous wind chills from the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.”

According to FOX Weather, thousands of flights were canceled across the US ahead of the storm; A state of emergency was declared in Arkansas, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, Kentucky, New York and Kansas, and in Washington DC.
