Food bills on course to rise by £275 a year as prices jump

The average household spending for food and beverage increases £ 275 this year because it accelerates the price of grocery store.

According to Sunday research firm WorldPenel, food prices last month increased by 5.2% with consumers’ concerns about shopping costs.

He said that people’s shopping habits have changed their shopping habits, sometimes cheaper supermarkets to buy their own brand products and to prepare simpler and lower cost -effective dishes at home.

The increase in prices in the last four weeks has been the highest since the beginning of 2024.

On average, the UK households spend about £ 5,283 for foods for food, but this may increase 275 £ unless people change what they buy.

Fraser Mkevitt, President of Retail and Consumer Insight in WorldPanel, known as Tantar, said that the current food inflation brought to mind the prices paid by people in the supermarkets after Russia’s full -scale Ukraine invasion at the beginning of 2022.

The energy and commodity cost rose in 2023 before alleviating. But Mr. Mkevitt said, “We have returned to this rolecoaster.” He said.

According to the company following the prices of 75,000 identical products, chocolate, butter and spans, as well as fresh meat, recorded the sharpest increases until July 17th in four weeks.

At the same time, dog food, sugar confectionery and laundry fell.

Mr. Mkevitt said that most people are the options for buying more of their own brand goods than supermarkets, searching for promotions or going to cheaper shops.

However, WorldPenel said that about one -fifth of households in the United Kingdom, in a case where they cannot further reduce food costs, they “fight” with grocery bills.

Following the shopping habits of 30,000 households throughout England, the research company said that people made simpler dinner while trying to save money.

“Almost seven out of 10 dinner contains less than six components.” He said.

The increasing food cost contributed to the increase in the total inflation rate in the UK, which is 3.6% until June – the highest since January 2024.
