Food Network star Tobias Dorzon reflects on the night he was shot 11 times during an armed robbery.

We had a candid interview with. people magazineAppearing on Guy Fieri’s “Guy’s Grocery Games” and “Tournament of Champions,” Dorzon described the night he was shot and killed by a group of armed robbers on Nov. 5, 2024, and detailed how he survived the traumatic attack.

“I was trying to cover it up [my girlfriend, Crystal Swan]Dorzon, who had just returned home to Maryland after a date night in the city, told the press: “I went to the ground and tried to drag myself to the sidewalk, but I couldn’t hear my daughter.”

Dorzon said he and Swan had just gotten out of an Uber when they noticed a group approaching them with guns drawn.

That evening, he chose to leave without his security detail.

“Almost at your last second you think, are you still going to be here? The people who are walking towards you and shooting you over and over again, what are they coming for? Are they coming to kill you? Are they coming to rob you? You really don’t know the outcome. I just hope my kids are okay.”

“I think they’re almost finished with me at this point,” said Dorzon, who recalled his hands being covered in blood.

Dorzon was shot 11 times. His girlfriend, Swan, was also shot and collapsed in the front yard.

Dorzon managed to FaceTime with his brother by placing his phone on the pavement where it fell, while a neighbor called 911 for help.

According to the pricing documents obtained WJLAThe total value of the stolen items, including Dorzon’s Audemars Piguet watch and diamond necklace, was approximately $100,000, authorities said.

5 suspects fled the scene with a stolen car. Authorities later identified one of the suspects as 21-year-old Devin Demetrius Spivey, according to People. Spivey, who has pleaded not guilty, faces 18 charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and harassment.

“This is still an ongoing investigation and there are still numerous other suspects,” Spivey’s attorney, Brendan Callahan, said in a statement to People. “There are many unanswered questions in the case, and we believe further investigation will reveal that Devin Spivey did not shoot Mr. Dorzon.”

Dorzon, whose girlfriend also survived the ordeal, was told he would never walk again due to serious injuries below his knee.

“I really didn’t know what to get out of everything,” she told the outlet. “As someone who has never been in trouble, coming back home to build something for my hometown, being my hometown hero, I thought something like that could never happen to me.”

“Every day I ask myself: ‘Was I wrong to go out that night? Should I not have gone out that night?’ There are so many different things I ask myself, but here I am. “I tell myself every day that God has a greater purpose for me.”

“Even after the shooting, he was constantly talking to me on the phone, making sure the medical staff was taking care of me, offering to order food for everyone, and just giving me words of encouragement,” she said of Fieri. “He was always there for me, every step of the way.”

Dorzon, who returned to television with the premiere of Food Network’s “Contest of Champions: An All-Star Christmas,” is now adjusting to post-filming life.

The chef lost feeling in one of his fingers, making it difficult for him to move around the kitchen as quickly as he wanted. Still, he’s grateful for his recovery.

“I’m so grateful to be here, to be in the moment, and to still be able to cook and give people an experience,” she said. “Creating an unforgettable dining experience for others has always been my biggest focus and dream.”
