NIA granted 45 More Days By Court To Conclude Probe

New Delhi : A court in Delhi on Friday granted an extension of 45 days to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to conclude its investigation into the blast that took place near the Red Fort on November 10 last year. Special Judge Prashant Sharma granted additional time to the agency and also extended judicial custody of several accused.

The Anti-Terrorism Department has detained 11 people in the case so far.

Earlier, on March 23, the agency had sought an extension and one of the reasons was that more time was needed to investigate the entire conspiracy due to fresh arrests made in February.

Last month, the NIA arrested Zameer Ahmad Ahangar and Tufail Ahmad Bhat from Jammu and Kashmir for their active participation in the conspiracy related to the Delhi blast.

In the application made by the agency on the same day, it was stated that many defendants needed to be interrogated to interpret the “radical material” taken from their digital devices.

It was stated that an expert from Jamia Millia Islamia was asked to submit an interpretive report after a comprehensive analysis of the radical material to ascertain the content of the “fundamentalist or extremist nature” of these literatures and articles written in Arabic for the purpose of “promoting or propagating violent jihad” and “preparing bombs through everyday household items and chemical substances”.

In its application, the institution stated that the WhatsApp groups used by the defendants were identified and that the investigation was continuing to identify the members of the ‘AGuH’ (Ansar Gazwat ul Hind) WhatsApp group.

He said a technical analysis was carried out along with tapping of certain mobile numbers, including WhatsApp Legal Interception (VoIP), to identify other members who subscribed to the radical or jihadist ideology of the terror module and to identify potential associates and handlers of the arrested defendants.

The defense stated that the details obtained from the “legal intervention” would confront the arrested defendant.

In the report, which includes details of the investigation report regarding the six defendants, the late Dr. It was stated that the second-hand car used by Umar-un-Nabi was provided by Amir Rashid Mir.

Nabi was driving an explosives-laden Hyundai i20 car outside the Red Fort in the national capital on November 10 when it exploded, killing 15 people and injuring many others.

The NIA’s plea stated that Danish alias Jasir Bilal Wani was preparing to carry out a terrorist attack by testing weapons and explosives along with Nabi and other accused persons.

Investigation revealed that Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay was an active member of AGuH (Ansar Gazwat ul Hind), a banned organisation, and motivated or radicalized youths to commit terrorist acts for sacrifice/martyrdom operations under the aegis of AGuH.

The indictment stated that he also aided and abetted the deceased Nabi (since his death) in the present case and planned and conspired with others to commit a terrorist act.

According to NIA’s application, Dr. Muzamil Shakeel Ganie was also a member of the AGuH and conspired with Nabi to arrange the logistics and supply of raw materials used in the blast, along with the supply and storage of weapons and the manufacture or production of explosives and IEDS used in the present case.

Another AGuH member, Dr. It was stated that Adeel Ahmad Pretty had a similar role to Ganie and arranged weapons and ammunition to wage war against the country and carry out terrorist acts.

The agency’s application stated that Dr Shaheen Saeed, who is also an AGUH member, provided logistics and “major financial support” to Ganie and Nabi, as well as arranging logistics and supply of raw material used in the current “terrorist action”.

On February 13, the court also gave the agency 45 more days to conclude its investigation on NIA’s request for an extension of 90 days on the grounds of further investigation of the financial and digital links of the accused.
