Footballer ‘BRAWLS with fans’ and ‘coach punches opposition player’ in shocking scenes as police launch investigation

A fight between a player, manager and fans after the FA Vase match is being investigated by the police.

Footage widely circulated on social media showed the Bilston Town FC player fighting with spectators following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Droylsden FC.

In a second video, a coach from the Droylsden team is seen punching someone on the field after being chased by a person resembling a Bilston player and unidentified people.

It is unclear what caused the massive brawl that saw the Bilston footballer come to blows with a group of men near the pitchside railings.

It is understood there was an attempt by a woman to break someone up from the fight before she was knocked to the ground, leading to the Bilston player attacking another group of men.

As their screams echoed, they could be seen falling in a heap onto the muddy and puddled surface, only to rise again and deliver furious blows.

Video footage of the fight then cuts away and it is unclear how long the fights will last. However, police confirmed they were called to the stadium in the early hours of Saturday evening.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We are investigating an incident of violence at Bilston Town Football Club in Queen Street yesterday.”

‘We were called around 17:00 in the evening upon reports that people were being attacked. No arrests have been made yet.

‘We are working to establish the full facts and will be contacting victims and reviewing mobile phone and CCTV footage to obtain full statements.

‘Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting 20/139817/26.’

Bilton Town addressed the controversy in a post on X: ‘We understand there is a video or videos shared by people from the game today. We would like to point out that this is not a fair reflection of the game or the day overall.

‘As a club, we are in the process of investigating all the footage of today’s match. ‘We thank the (Droylsden FC) fans for their cooperation.’

Droylsden made no mention of the fights, posting a thank you message to Bilton Town after the game.

“Many thanks to (Bilton Town) for their hospitality and best wishes for the rest of the season,” the club wrote on social media.

‘To all the Bloods who made this journey, THANK YOU for your tremendous support and safe journeys home!’
