The Foreign Office called on British people living in Dubai to declare their presence following Iran’s attacks. An FCDO alert called on British nationals in the UAE to inform the UK government of their whereabouts via official. registration service, due to “reported missile attacks”.
The person will then receive FCDO travel advice updates to their phone and email, allowing the UK Government to know how many citizens are abroad. People can only register if they have a UK passport. British citizens were also called upon to report their presence if they were in Qatar following the missile attacks.
The UK Government yesterday advised against all but essential travel to the UAE and Qatar following Iran’s attacks on those countries.
The FCDO warned: “Due to reported missile attacks, British citizens in the area UAE He must take shelter in place immediately. “Stay indoors in a safe place, avoid all travel and follow the instructions of local authorities.”
One person was confirmed dead and 11 injured at airports in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Authorities in Abu Dhabi have confirmed the capture of a drone targeting Zayed International Airport (AUH), resulting in “falling debris” killing one person and injuring seven others. Dubai International Airport (DXB) was damaged in an “incident” in which four staff were injured, officials said.
Officials have confirmed that two iconic hotels in Dubai were also hit by falling debris following missiles and drones from Iran. The Fairmont Hotel on Palm Jumeirah and the iconic Burj Al Arab in Dubai were hit.
The FCDO warned that British citizens should take reasonable precautions, including avoiding areas around security or military installations, due to the “increased risk of regional tensions”.
He added: “If you are advised to take shelter, stay indoors or find the nearest safe building or designated shelter. An internal stairwell or a room with as few external walls or windows as possible may provide additional protection.”
