Former CM Basavaraj Bommai Suspects Conspiracy Against BJP MLA Chandru Lamani

: Haveri MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday suspected a conspiracy against Shirahatti BJP MLA Chandru Lamani and insisted that the matter should be properly investigated from all angles.

Lamani was recently arrested by the Lokayukta during an ambush for allegedly taking a bribe from a contractor.

Speaking to reporters in Haveri, Bommai said that even forcing someone to take a bribe is an offense under the Prevention of Corruption Act and hence the matter should be properly investigated from all angles.

Bommai said that many people visited Lamani in the hospital, so there is no clarity about the incident at the moment.

“Lokayukta has registered a case. The truth will come out after investigation. When a young doctor does good deeds, a dark shadow has been cast on his service. No one should encourage conspiracies to ruin the public life of a person, such actions should be condemned,” he said.

Replying to a question on allegations of kickbacks by contractor associations, Bommai said BESCOM contractors, PWD contractors association and some others held press conferences and commissions increased.

“Congress has no moral right to question this issue,” he said.
