Former Cowboys QB Tony Romo had an open bottle of alcohol in his car when arrested, police say

MILWAUKEE (AP) — CBS NFL analyst and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo had an open bottle of alcohol in his vehicle when he was stopped by police last week and beyond Arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcoholOfficials said the following.

During an inventory of Romo’s black Jeep before it was towed, an “open bottle of alcoholic beverage” was discovered on the passenger side, according to one of three records released by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

Another citation said police stopped Romo on Interstate 43 on July 23 after he was seen passing cars in a bloodstained area that separated interstate traffic from cars entering the on-ramp. Police said Romo questioned what a bloody area was during the stop.

Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, arrested and released. Court records show Romo was later cited for refusing to “submit to a post-arrest intoxication test.” He is scheduled to appear in court on September 21.

Romo told deputies he was coming from a golf course and was stopped on his way “to visit grandparents,” according to body camera footage released earlier this week.

A deputy told Romo he suspected he was impaired due to his “red glassy eyes” and “intoxicating odor of alcoholic beverages.”

Romo attended high school in Burlington, Wisconsin, about 35 miles from Milwaukee.

Romo, 46, chief game analyst for CBS’ NFL coverage Since 2017, after making four Pro Bowl appearances during his NFL career, which lasted from 2004-16 and was spent entirely with Dallas.

Romo remains the Cowboys’ franchise leader with 248 passing yards. He held the franchise record for career passing yards (34,183). Dak Prescott passed him Last season.
