Former doctor charged with 38 sexual assaults against patients

A former doctor has been charged with a string of alleged sexual assaults on 38 victims who were patients under his care.
Nathaniel Spencer, 38, of Quinton, Birmingham, was charged with 15 counts of sexual assault, 17 counts of assault by penetration, nine counts of sexual assault on a child under 13, three counts of assault by penetration on a child under 13 and one count of attempted assault by penetration.
It follows an investigation by Staffordshire Police which examined offenses against 38 patients at the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley between 2017 and 2021.
“We have decided to prosecute Nathaniel Spencer for a number of serious sexual offenses allegedly committed against patients while he was working as a doctor – including assault by penetration and sexual assault on a child,” said Acting Crown Prosecutor Ben Samples, West Midlands CPS Complex Case Working Unit and Serious Violence, Organized Crime and Exploitation Unit.
“Our prosecutors have worked at length to support a detailed and complex investigation carried out by Staffordshire Police, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there was sufficient evidence to prosecute the case and that it was in the public interest to continue the criminal investigation.”
Nathaniel Spencer will appear at North Staffordshire Justice Center on 20 January 2026.
