Former JD (U) leader KC Tyagi joins RLD

Tyagi said he came to the party not to become an MLA or MP but to see RLD chief “Jayant Chaudhary look like (his grandfather) Chaudhary Charan Singh”.
He promised to take Charan Singh’s vision and ideals forward during his tenure in the RLD, which, like the JD(U), is an ally of the BJP and a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
The veteran socialist leader joined the RLD along with his supporters in the presence of party president and Union minister Jayant Chaudhary at an event here.
Tyagi had announced on Tuesday that he was quitting JD(U) without giving any reason. It was affiliated with the JD(U) ever since it came into existence in October 2003 from the merger of the Samata Party and the Janata Dal.
Tyagi held various positions such as general secretary, chief spokesperson and political advisor to JD(U) during his tenure in the party led by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Inviting Tyagi to his party, Chaudhary claimed that he would provide “new energy and strength” to the RLD. The RLD chief also welcomed all other leaders who joined his party along with Tyagi and said: “On behalf of all party workers, I would like to welcome them and express my gratitude.”
Speaking to PTI videos about joining RLD, Tyagi said, “There is no difference between RLD and JD(U). The leaders who are the guiding figures of both the parties are the same: Chaudhary Charan Singh, Dr Lohia and Karpoori Thakur.”
He maintained that during his tenure in the RLD, he would strive to empower the issues left behind by Charan Singh to ensure “prosperous farmers and a strong India”.
When asked about RLD’s preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Tyagi said, “We want to make the Lok Dal so strong that an NDA government will be formed in Uttar Pradesh once again.”
When asked if he will contest the UP assembly polls in 2027, he said: “No. I was already an MLA and an MP.”
Speaking at the event, Tyagi praised Charan Singh’s leadership, recalling his past relationship with the former prime minister.
“Thanks to Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji, I have served as a member of both Houses (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha). So, I did not come here (to RLD) to become an MLA or an MP.
“I came to see that Jayant Chaudhary looks like Chaudhary Charan Singh,” he said.
