Former Liberal MP Katie Allen dies after cancer battle

Former Liberal MP Katie Allen has died aged 59 following a battle with cancer.

Dr Allen’s family announced the death in a social media post, and his two daughters wrote loving messages in the comments.

“She spent her life caring for others as a mother, doctor, professor, MP and friend. She is deeply loved,” she said in Tuesday’s post.

“He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, and lived a full, beautiful life to the end.

“We love you very much.”

Dr Allen represented the Melbourne seat of Higgins from 2019 to 2022 and entered politics after working as a paediatrician and medical researcher for more than two decades.

Liberal senator Jane Hume, Dr Allen’s former party room colleague, said she was an extraordinary woman.

Former Liberal senator Simon Birmingham said his memories of Dr Allen were a real blessing.

“Rest in peace my friend Katie, my Canberra flatmate, fellow political warrior and true servant of the people,” he wrote.

“All our love to Malcolm and Katie’s wonderful, loving and supportive family.”
