Former Met police officer goes on trial accused of sexually abusing a girl | UK news

The case in which a former police officer, who exhibited “predatory and controlling” behavior for many years, was tried for allegedly sexually assaulting a girl and a woman was explained.

The Old Bailey in London heard the boy tell his mother what David Carrick did after he was found sleeping behind his bedroom door when he was 14.

Carrick, 50, allegedly attacked the young man several times and covered his mouth with his hand to prevent him from screaming.

He recalled once finding himself “stuck” between a chair and a sofa and trying to escape by screaming, the court heard.

Carrick has denied five allegations of sexual assault against the child in 1989 and 1990.

He also pleaded not guilty to two charges of rape between 2014 and 2019, one of sexual assault and one of coercive and controlling behavior towards a woman.

Carrick allegedly admitted what he had done to the girl in a letter obtained from his medical records and signed “Dave.”

He wrote that the girl was “not crazy” and that it was “true,” but he stopped about four months ago.

“I know how (the girl) must feel. That’s why I stopped and promised to never go near her again, and I kept that promise and always will,” Carrick wrote.

He offered never to be seen again, adding: “Sorry to you and especially sorry to (the girl) but she does not have to worry ever again. Please do not try to talk about it.”

More than 20 years later, he allegedly raped and sexually assaulted a woman with whom he was in a “toxic relationship”.

Opening the trial on Tuesday, prosecutor Tom Little KC said: “This case you are now trying is primarily about sexual offenses committed by this defendant many years apart.

“But we say that with regard to all crimes, no matter when they were committed, the defendant was very predatory and controlling.

“This is not an isolated crime but part of a pattern that the defendant committed over many years.”

Little said Carrick admitted “numerous” sexual and other offenses in 2022 and 2023 against multiple women, almost all of whom he knew.

The first complainant at the hearing was alleged to have been approximately 12 years old at the time she was sexually assaulted by the defendant.

Little said the woman was raped “several times” and subjected to sexual intercourse without her consent.

He told jurors: “Many of these crimes occurred during the toxic relationship between the two of them and were controlled by him.”

Little added: “It is important for you to know that he was a Metropolitan police officer at the time of this relationship, as he was for many years.”

None of the alleged victims in the case can be identified for legal reasons. The trial continues.
