Former Metropolitan Police commissioner Lord Ian Blair who oversaw London’s response to the 7/7 attacks dies at the age of 72

Former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Ian Blair died at the age of 72.

Between 2005-2008, the senior officer led the London power and took part in the forefront of the response to the 7/7 tube bombings that killed 52 people.

Lord Blair’s death was announced by Christ Church College, Christ Church College, where he studied English tonight.

A spokesman said: ‘The Church community wants to extend his condolences to the Lord Blair family of Boughton QPM, who died at the age of 72.’

Lord Blair joined Met in 1974 as part of the graduate entry plan and rose rapidly.

He was appointed as a force commissioner in February 2005, only months before the target of London’s four deadly suicide bomber.
