Former NRL and State of Origin player Chris Walker was arrested on the Gold Coast on Saturday night in connection with domestic violence allegations, according to reports.
Queensland Police have confirmed a 46-year-old Currumbin Waters man was arrested on Saturday night and later charged with multiple domestic violence offences.
“Officers attended an address, Whitsunday Drive, Currumbin Waters, at approximately 5.50pm after receiving information that a man was wanted for domestic violence offenses and was taken into custody shortly after,” police said in a statement.
They confirmed that a 46-year-old Currumbin Waters man has been charged with three counts of common assault and a number of offenses including three counts of common assault and one count each of using a carriage service to threaten, harass or cause an offence, unlawful stalking, intimidating, harassing or exploiting.
He will appear at Southport Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Police allege Walker fled down a nearby street after they attempted to arrest him at his home, then abandoned the car and ran on foot, jumping fences and jumping into a nearby backyard, according to Nine News.
Police units are reportedly combing the streets surrounding Whitsunday Drive in Currumbin Waters.
Finally, after a two-hour search, he was allegedly found hiding under a pontoon in the nearby canals.
Walker played for several clubs in the NRL from 1999 to 2011, most notably the Brisbane Broncos and Sydney Roosters. He also had stints with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Melbourne Storm, Gold Coast Titans, Parramatta Eels and French club Catalans Dragons.
He also played for the Queensland Maroons in the 2001 and 2002 State of Origin series.
