Man arrested for alleged arsons at downtown U of T campus

A 42-year-old man has been arrested in an arson investigation after several buildings at the University of Toronto’s downtown campus were allegedly set on fire last month.

Toronto Police said a man entered the buildings located on St. George Campus in the Bloor St. W. and Avenue Rd. area between 2:40 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 14.

Police allege the man lit several fires and damaged property before leaving the area. No injuries were reported.
Shortly after the incidents occurred, investigators named a suspect.
Cops said Yuriy Khraplyvyy was arrested Friday and charged with five counts of arson causing damage to property, two counts of mischief under $5,000, one count of mischief over $5,000, extortion, uttering threats, and two counts of failing to attend court.
TTC WORKER THREATENED: COPS
Investigators are turning to the public to help identify a suspect after a TTC employee was allegedly threatened three months ago.
Toronto Police said a man boarded a TTC streetcar in the Bathurst and College Sts. area on Nov. 10, 2025.
It was reported that the transit worker was conducting fare inspections on board and spoke with the man.

“The suspect made utterances of a threatening nature in regards to a previous incident with another TTC employee,” police said in a news release on Saturday.
An image of the suspect was released.
He is described as being in his mid-50s, 5-foot-10 with a heavy build and short facial hair.
