Former supply teacher charged with upskirting pupils in Greater Manchester schools

A former supply teacher has been charged with multiple sex crimes against children, including upskirting and voyeurism, police said.
Abusali Rahman, of Salford, Greater Manchester, was detained after being charged with multiple offences.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the 36-year-old was arrested in June 2025 after a parent raised concerns about a photo of their child in school uniform circulating on a social media account.
The discovery of further images led to a full investigation by GMP’s Online Child Exploitation Investigation Team (OCAIT).
The alleged crimes were against girls who were between the ages of 13 and 16 at the time of the incidents.
13 girls were identified at seven high schools in Bury, Bolton and Salford. Four girls from two high schools are still unidentified. GMP said they are continuing to work at these schools to identify the girls.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed Rahman was charged with:
- 12 indecent photographs/alleged photographs of a child (images obtained by taking upskirt footage)
- 3 publications of an obscene article (sexualized images generated by AI)
- Taking an inappropriate photo/fake photo of a child (creating AI-generated images) 3 times
- 1 time: Distributing an indecent photo/alleged photo of a child (sharing an upskirt photo with another user)
- Attempt to meet girl under 16 after sexual harassment (via online chat)
- 1 count of operating equipment under someone else’s clothing without their consent (upskirt action).
All affected schools and the parents of the 13 girls identified have been notified.

Rahman was charged and appeared at Wigan Magistrates’ Court in April 2026. He has since been remanded in custody and will appear at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday 28 May 2026.
Detective Superintendent Rebecca McKendrick, head of GMP’s Public Protection Division, said: “I must start by emphasizing that the parents and schools of the girls identified have been informed and supported throughout this process. “If you were not aware of this case before today then your child has not been identified as an alleged victim.
“We have been in contact with all schools where we know Mr Rahman has worked in the North West since he became a qualified teacher in July 2023. No further allegations of criminality have been identified at this time. Police, schools, local authorities, security officers and specialist support services are working closely together throughout this investigation.
“I understand the concern and upset this news will bring. It is very important that everyone avoid speculation as this is an active case where the girls affected have the right to anonymity for life and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. The last thing needed right now is to speculate about this case; if you know anything please let us know directly.”
