Ballari DIG transferred after clash that killed Congress party worker in Karnataka

Close on the heels of the transfer of the Ballari Superintendent of Police, the Karnataka government also transferred the Judicial Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), just a few hours after assuming charge, following an encounter that claimed the life of a Congress party worker.

The DIG was replaced by a senior officer of the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP). The decision comes amid intense scrutiny over the handling of the incident, which has sparked political outrage and demands for accountability.

As per an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), PS Harsha, who is awaiting appointment to the post, has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police of Ballari district. The DIG replaces Vartika Katiyar, DIG, who was transferred and posted as the Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement.

In another important posting, Sumana D. Pennekar, who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Bengaluru, has been appointed as Superintendent of Police, Ballari district. The post was left vacant after Pavan Nejjur was suspended after the government detained him just hours after taking over. at first glance He is responsible for the failure to effectively handle the law and order situation during the violent clash in Ballari on January 1.

The violence broke out following a clash between supporters of Ballari City MLA Nara Bharath Reddy and Gangavathi MLA G. Janardhan Reddy. A Congress worker was shot and killed during the incident. Following reports of stone throwing, the police used canes and tear gas to control the situation.
