Four Assam Ministers allocated portfolios

Four Assam Ministers who took oath along with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were allotted their portfolios on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
Officials said that the Governor approved the Ministerial portfolio list sent by the Prime Minister.

The four ministers in Mr. Sarma’s cabinet are Rameshwar Teli and Ajanta Neog of the BJP, Atul Bora of the AGP and Charan Boro of the BPF.
Mr. Teli, a former Union minister, has been allotted Labor Welfare, Tea tribes and Adivasi Welfare and Transformation and Development department.
Ms Neog, who was Finance Minister in Mr Sarma’s previous cabinet, was allocated the Women and Child Development and Tourism portfolios.
Mr. Bora, the Minister of Agriculture in the last government, was given the charge of Panchayat and Rural Development, Implementation of the Assam Accord, Border Protection and Development and Excise Department.

Mr. Boro, who was also a Minister in the previous government, holds the Transport and Welfare department of Bodoland.
Until the ministry is expanded, all other departments will be in the hands of the Prime Minister.
Mr. Sarma had on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, said that the ministry would be expanded after the first parliamentary session ended on May 26.
The four Ministers represent the tea tribes (Mr. Teli), women (Mrs. Neog), the regional Assamese community (Mr. Bora) and the indigenous Bodo tribal community (Mr. Boro).
The BJP-led NDA government came to power for the third consecutive term in the state with a record 102 seats. Mr. Sarma was sworn in as prime minister for a second consecutive term on May 12.
