Four Booked for Assaulting Migrant Worker in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: A migrant worker from Jharkhand was allegedly attacked in Mangaluru by a group of four men who accused him of being a Bangladeshi citizen and demanded proof of his identity, police said on Monday.

The victim, identified as Diljan Ansari, has been working as a migrant worker in Mangaluru for the last 10-15 years and stays in the city for four to six months every year for work. According to the police, he was attacked by four men who claimed to be from Bangladesh and demanded that he show any evidence. They also made some unwanted and unnecessary comments.

Police claimed that when Ansari claimed that he was an Indian citizen and not a Bangladeshi, the men attacked him using their own work tools, hitting him on the head and causing heavy bleeding. A local woman intervened and saved him from the attack.

Fearing that the problem would escalate further, Ansari did not immediately contact the police and returned home without filing a complaint. Upon the notice of local administrators, the incident was also reported to the police.

The police said it had verified the facts and confirmed that Ansari was an Indian national who had come to Mangaluru on business. A case was registered against the accused under 126(2), 109, 352, 351(3),353, 118(1) r/w 3(5) of BNS.

The accused were identified as Sagar, Danush, Lalu alias Rathish and Mohan, all residents of Kulur. The incident took place within the limits of Kavoor police station.
