Four charged in Crime and Corruption Commission probe into secret corrupt payments to public health officials

Queensland Health authorities received secret payments from representatives of a company in exchange for the use of its medical devices in public hospitals, the Crime and Corruption Commission has alleged.

The corruption watchdog said on Thursday its investigation found a group of public officials failed to disclose conflicts of interest or relationships with the company to Queensland Health.

The four men were facing serious charges of fraud, official corruption and misconduct in public office. An arrest warrant was issued for the fifth person.

The accused group will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates’ Court on January 15 and January 28 next year.

The CCC said it would not comment further on the case while the matters were before the court.

It was stated that the investigation, called the “Barzona Investigation”, was carried out in cooperation with the Queensland Health Ombudsman Office.
