Four die in collision between taxi and car in Bolton | Greater Manchester

Four people died when a car and a taxi collided in Bolton, Manchester.

A police cordon was established on Wigan Road following the accident, which occurred at around 12.45pm on Sunday. 5 injured passengers were taken to hospital and treated.

The red Seat Leon collided with a Citroën C4 Picasso taxi and Manchester police said the driver of the Seat and his two passengers were killed, as well as the driver of the Citroën. Official identification of the victims is still ongoing. However, it is thought that there were 3 young people among the dead.

Emergency services, including fire brigades and technical response teams, were called to the scene. A tactical assistance unit was located at the scene of the accident, along with a rescue vehicle.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester fire and rescue service said: “At around 12.50am this morning, three fire engines and technical response units attended a crash involving a taxi and a car on Wigan Road, Bolton.

“Fire crews arrived quickly to secure the area and used cutting equipment to remove people from vehicles before handing them over to the North West ambulance service. Manchester police helped cordon off the area. Crews remained at the scene for approximately two hours.”

As reported by Bolton NewsA resident living near the crash site reported that the incident occurred at exactly 12:44 p.m. They said: “I was texting my partner at the same time when I heard a very loud explosion. “Immediately after the accident and several times afterwards I heard a woman scream very loudly.

“He was a pedestrian who saw the accident in front of his eyes and started running in the direction of the accident… The police had to stop him and pull him back because he was about to faint.”

Manchester police are appealing for anyone with information about what happened to come forward.

“This includes anyone who saw the vehicle move before the collision, witnessed the incident or has dashcam/CCTV footage of the incident,” police said.
