Four Indian students injured in knife attack in Russia’s Ufa; Indian Embassy takes cognizance

Four Indians were among the others injured in the knife attack in Ufa, Russia. The Indian Embassy in Moscow confirmed the incident late on Saturday. Officials from the Indian Consulate in Kazan were sent to Ufa to provide support.

The attack prompted immediate intervention from Indian diplomatic officials. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in New Delhi was also informed.

Meanwhile, the Embassy reported that communication with Russian authorities continues to obtain more information and to ensure that the injured receive appropriate medical care.

In the statement made by the Embassy, ​​”An unfortunate attack occurred in Ufa. Many people, including 4 Indian students, were injured. The Embassy is in contact with the authorities and Kazan Consulate officials are going to Ufa to provide aid to the injured students.”

According to the information obtained, the incident took place in the gym inside a university’s foreign student dormitory. India Today reported that according to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, initial information indicates that a 15-year-old boy entered the dormitory armed with a knife and attacked students. Meanwhile, it was reported that two police officers who tried to intervene were injured.

The incident has created concern in the Indian community in Russia, especially among students who form a significant part of the diaspora in cities such as Kazan, Ufa and Moscow, IANS reported.

Meanwhile, parents and families in India are awaiting additional information on the condition of the injured students.

Earlier this week, the Center informed Parliament about the deaths of Indian Students due to violent attacks from 2018 to 2025.

According to ANI, according to the data released by the government, 17 students lost their lives in Canada, followed by 9 students in the USA. Among others, three students in Australia.
