Some of these houses look large and imposing and may have a long history. But inside, they are extremely livable and versatile for modern families who want to relax or work from home, gather or spend quiet moments, enjoy the outdoors or unwind with a good book.
The street has its charm, but the accommodation inside doesn’t disappoint – and there are plenty of opportunities to look out the window and daydream.
90 Bridport Street, Albert Park VIC
This two-story Victorian terrace looks gorgeous from the outside, but once you step inside you’ll find a cozy fireplace, a soothing natural stone kitchen, and plenty of light from tall windows and skylights. The outdoor dining area and backyard are surrounded by vines and hedges that make the space feel special. There’s space that could make an inspiring home office, a freestanding studio with high ceilings, or maybe work on a novel.
32 North Road, Brighton VIC
No, this isn’t a heart shape painted on the window, it’s just a clever use of floor-to-ceiling glass in front of a gallery-like space for artwork. Known as Seccull House and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register, this mid-century modern house dates back to 1972 and was designed by architect Guilford Bell, known for his partnership with Neil Clerehan in the 1960s. The house is arranged in two wings; The bedrooms surround an elegant courtyard, while the living, kitchen and dining areas overlook the swimming pool. It has been updated but retains its original purpose.
13 Highett Road, Highton VIC
Imagine being almost anywhere in this charming Geelong home and wanting something to read. It’s a book lover’s dream; There is a bookcase under the high ceilings in the living area, or another in the music room, living room, bedroom and study. Meanwhile, there’s plenty to do outdoors, including tennis courts and well-established gardens.
12 Brougham Street, Richmond VIC
Behind the façade of this Edwardian home is a striking living area and courtyard, where angular black framing contrasts with white walls and greenery. Choose from the outdoor terrace or the covered sunken dining area opposite a lighted well to relax and enjoy your meal. It is close to public transportation and shopping streets.
