In a statement on Friday, June 12, 2026, the police said that four people, including two children, died and two people were struggling to survive in two separate incidents in Kurnool and Sri Sathya Sai districts.
A man, a woman and a one-year-old child allegedly consumed poisonous substances in a cotton field in Gulyam village of Halaharvi Mandate on Thursday. While the woman and the baby, identified as Neelavati, died at the scene, Mahesh was taken to Adoni Government Hospital in critical condition.
Police said Mahesh, a native of Gulyam, migrated to Karnataka about 15 years ago and recently returned to the village with Neelavati and her child. According to initial investigations, the incident may have been caused by family disagreements. Police are also investigating whether the woman and the child with whom Mahesh allegedly attempted suicide were forced to consume pesticides.
In another incident, in M. Birepalli village of Hindupur mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district, financial difficulties allegedly took the life of a woman. Mahalakshmi, 40, reportedly consumed poison and gave it to her two children.
While the woman and her 10-year-old son Rishi died, her 12-year-old daughter Srinidhi fought for her life at the District Hospital in Anantapur.
