Four people including baby die after car crashes into trees in Derby

Four people, including a baby, died when a car crashed into trees on a busy highway in Derby.

Emergency services were called after a red Hyundai car left the A38 and crashed into trees between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 at around 11pm on Saturday.

Derbyshire Police said two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man died at the scene. The baby girl, who was taken to the hospital, died a short time later.

Police said the 33-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was later hospitalized for serious injuries.

Police said all those involved were from Leeds in West Yorkshire, their relatives had been informed and they were being supported by specialist officers.

“Our thoughts are with them at this saddest time,” a spokesman said.

The carriageway remained closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the crash, but it was later reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has dashcam footage is asked to contact the police.
