Emmanuel Macron said he would recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in France in September.
The French President said that he hoped that he would bring peace to the region on Thursday evening.
Macron published a letter sent to Mahmud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian authority, and confirmed France’s intention to be the first great Western power to recognize the Palestinian state.

He wrote on social media, “We must finally build the Palestinian state, ensure its applicability, and accept Israel by fully recognizing Israel to contribute to the security of everyone in the Middle East,”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that France’s decision was “rewarded terror” and the risk of creating another Iranian deputy, just like Gaza.
