-Arlington: Erling Haaland shattered Ivory Coast’s World Cup hopes and beat Norway 2-1 at Dallas Stadium in the 86th minute, sending them into the last 16.
Haaland’s fifth goal of the tournament ensured Norway advanced after Amad Diallo canceled out Antonio Nusa’s first goal in the 39th minute, setting up a mouth-watering clash with Brazil in New York on Sunday.
The African side overshadowed the opening exchange with threats from Nicolas Pepe down the right wing, while Ghislain Konan came closest to putting his side ahead, bursting into the area and dragging a shot into the side netting.
Yan Diomande picked out Pepe with the ball from the right and Villarreal’s shot was miscued and the Norwegian defense cleared the ball.
Haaland had remained on the sidelines up to this point, but Norway took control as the half approached.
