French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday that his country did not take the US declaration on Greenland lightly and would support Denmark’s sovereignty. Macron’s remarks came at a time when Trump said the United States wanted nothing less than Greenland.

“We do not take the statements regarding Greenland lightly. If the sovereignty of a European country and its ally were to be affected, the knock-on effects would be unprecedented. France is monitoring the situation with great attention and will align its action in full solidarity with Denmark and its sovereignty,” Macron said. he said.

In a previous post on Truth Social, Donald Trump said that the United States wants Greenland for its national security. Trump said, “The USA needs Greenland for National Security purposes. It is vital for the Golden Dome we are building. NATO must lead us in obtaining it. IF WE DON’T DO IT, IT WILL BE RUSSIA OR CHINA AND IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.”

The US President also said that NATO would not be an effective force without America. Trump said, “Militarily, NATO would not be an effective force or deterrent without the tremendous power of the United States, much of which I built up in my first term and have now brought to a new and even higher level—not even close! They know that, and so do I. NATO becomes much more formidable and effective with Greenland in U.S. hands. Anything less is unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

European allies and Denmark have strongly opposed Donald Trump’s plan to annex Greenland.

Meanwhile, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found that only 17% of Americans support President Trump’s efforts to seize Greenland. It was also stated that a significant majority of Democrats and Republicans were against using military force to annex the island.
