Fred Kerley: American former world 100m champion given two-year ban

Kerley won gold in the 100 meters at the 2022 World Championships, as well as gold in the men’s 4×100 meters in 2019 and 2023.

He also achieved the 100 meters podium at the last two Olympic Games, winning silver at Tokyo 2020 and bronze at Paris 2024.

“With this level of experience and being a member of the Testing Pool since 2017, Court advised Kerley to exercise greater caution,” the AIU said in a statement. The statement was included.

AIU President Brett Clothier said: “Unfortunately, complex doping substances can be detected in an athlete’s sample within days, or even hours, of administration.

“Anti-Doping organizations need to be able to test athletes on the day and time of our choosing, without prior notice, otherwise anti-doping programs will not work and dopers will easily avoid detection. Therefore, Where to Find rules are fundamental to the integrity of the sport and must be followed.

“The AIU will continue to strictly enforce whereabouts requirements to protect the right of all athletes to compete cleanly.”

Kerley, who last competed in the Grand Sprint Series in Norwalk, Calif., in July 2025, became the first track and field athlete and American male to register for the controversial Advanced Games in September.

He did not dispute the failure to ascertain his whereabouts on 13 June – but blamed technical problems with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (Usada) app for the missed tests on 11 May and the Doping Control Officer (DCO) for the missed tests on 6 and 7 December.

This decision can be appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).
