Freight train derails in Pennsylvania, authorities say

(NewsNation) — Officials in Pennsylvania said a freight train derailed Tuesday, causing a short-term shelter-in-place order for residents.

Bensalem Police Department in question The derailment occurred between Street Road and Neshaminy Falls Train Station just before 2 p.m.

Authorities said that after the police, fire department, emergency services and hazardous materials teams evaluated the contents of the train wagons, no hazardous materials were found.

The Bucks County Emergency Management Agency previously said the derailment was a hazmat incident.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick said on Facebook that his office was working directly with local officials and first responders, as well as the Department of Transportation, to gather more information about the incident.

“This was a freight car derailment and did not occur on commuter rail lines,” the statement said in part.

CSX, which operates the freight line, reported no injuries.

Officials added that the evacuation order for residents was also lifted shortly after the incident.
