NDA gains big in Muslim-dominated seats, JD(U) improves, leaving Mahagathbandhan with no sucess

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) alliance gained greater mandate with the BJP getting 90 seats and the JD(U) 85 seats. But surprisingly, the NDA made significant gains in many Muslim-dominated seats as it swept constituency after constituency.

Latest trends show that the NDA potentially won around 16 Muslim seats. The NDA alliance partner that benefited the most was the JD(U), which won eight more seats than the last election in 2020. Moreover, Chirag Paswan’s LJP (RV) is leading in six seats with significant Muslim votes. However, despite an intense and high-energy fight, Mahagathabandhan failed to achieve much and struggled throughout the concluding day. Despite the heavy defeat, RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav won from his wicket in Raghopur.
In terms of Muslim-majority seats, the RJD is losing nearly seven seats it had won in the 2020 assembly elections, with the Congress trailing in four Muslim-majority seats. Both parties fared better in 2020; the former won 18 such seats and the latter six.
Traditionally, Muslim voters preferred secular alliances. The element they look for in such parties or alliances is inclusiveness. An election poll in Bihar in 2022 showed that Muslims constituted 17.7% of the population, where Mahagathabandhan won nearly 80% of Muslim votes in 2015 and 77% in 2020.
