Katie Thurston Shares One-Year Update On Cancer Battle

Washington:Reality TV star Katie Thurston shared a hopeful update one year after being diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, revealing that her latest scans showed her condition remained stable, according to E! News. In a video posted on Instagram, the former ‘Bachelorette’ star said recent MRI and PET scan results show his tumor is currently “stable.” “While this is a good thing, for the first time in a year my tumor is not shrinking, it’s just stagnating,” the 35-year-old actress said, admitting that the news initially shook her. “I thought maybe the medicine wasn’t working anymore.” But Thurston explained that his oncologist reassured him that a short break from medication could slow the tumor’s shrinkage, and that stability at this stage is still considered positive.
“When you first start treatment, your body is in shock,” she said. “I suddenly go into menopause, I suddenly take very strong medications. TO! According to News, it’s common for the tumor to shrink significantly up front and then sort of slow that momentum as treatment continues. He added that his tumor had shrunk by 50 percent over the past year and his PET scan showed no new spread of the disease. Despite continuing with his current treatment plan, Thurston revealed that he is preparing for the next big step in his journey. “I’m meeting my surgeon this Friday to have a double mastectomy,” she shared, explaining it this way to E! Thurston, who married Jeff Arcuri in 2025 amid his health battle, spoke candidly about her journey on social media, according to the News.
She also revealed that her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in January. Despite receiving a normal mammogram result, Thurston encouraged her mother to get more testing, which resulted in an ultrasound, MRI, and biopsies confirming the diagnosis. “Our own advocacy allowed us to catch this early,” she wrote, adding that she traveled to Seattle to support her mother on her first date, according to E! News.
